Ricoh Virtual Workplace and Mixpace work together to support efficient ways of working in the construction industry through the use of VR and AR
Ricoh Co., Ltd. (President & CEO: Yoshinori Yamashita) and Holorabo Co., Ltd. (CEO: Kaoru Nakamura) are Ricoh’s Ricoh Virtual Workplaces (VWP) and Holorabo’s 3D Data Conversion Solutions for the Manufacturing and Construction Industry, both of which are provided by Ricoh for the purpose of improving productivity through the use of digital data from the construction industry.
Coordinate “mixpace” on October 25.
VWP is a service that allows any space to be reproduced on a VR and brought together in space using a VR headset.
Mixpace is a solution that converts and displays 3D CAD and BIM/CIM*1 files for AR. Its advantage is that it makes it easier to use 3D data through automatic data conversion via cloud.
This VWP-mixpace collaboration will enable the use of the data converted by mixpace from the customer’s 3DCAD/BIM/CIM file in the VR space on the VWP. This will expand the options for using the data in the construction industry, increase the efficiency of the consultation, design review, and design and construction studies.
Ricoh will continue to work with people-friendly digital systems, helping customers feel the pleasure of working.

Background
In the construction industry, among the bills related to the reform of the way of working, which are scheduled to go into effect in April 2024, there is an urgent need to improve efficiency and improve labor productivity through the use of ICT, including penalties for the upper limit of overtime.
In addition, the i-Construction (i-Construction), which the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has been promoting since 2016, aims to increase the productivity of the construction industry by 20% by 2025 by using ICT at construction sites.
The use of 3D data such as BIM/CIM is considered indispensable for this purpose, and the use of 3D data is expected to become increasingly active in the future.
As various VR/AR services have been developed and operated, it has become clear that each has its own applications and strengths.
For further use of the 3D data, it is expected that it can be used in both VR and AR, rather than in either.
To be realized through this collaboration
Previously, to reproduce BIM/CIM files on VWP, it was necessary to convert and share data for VWP separately. However, this collaboration makes it possible to convert and share data through the mixpace cloud, which enhances the convenience of data.
Mixpace, which emphasizes data conversion and AR expressions, and VWP, which has BIM/CIM files and point cloud data in VR and 360-degree image/video expressive functions, will be able to express data from cloud to VR and AR, thus broadening the range of data utilization.
The BIM/CIM files on the mixpace cloud can be used for both VR and AR.
This enables us to use common data to assess the overall spatial prospects of VRs, to grasp the scale of the buildings, and to share the image of the completed buildings that ARs excel in, and to confirm the construction.
Customers who have viewed cloud data only on PCs and other screens can reproduce the data on the VR space and share the data with remote members, and use iPad and HoloLens 2 to reproduce the data on the AR.
※The use of the VWP and mixpace linkage features requires the subscription of both services.
[mixpace]
Mixpace converts 3D CAD and BIM data into 3D models that can be easily checked by AR/MR compatible devices, enabling the use of 3D data for design, manufacturing, construction, deployment simulation, installation, and maintenance.
The conversion work for AR/MR, which took days of manual work, will be completed automatically with a minimum of 1-2 minutes*, which will greatly reduce the work time.
